Signature on File

Every so often we get very special people coming in to rent cars. Today was one of those days, or I should say tomorrow will be one of those days.  These elite VIP's range anywhere from the 20 something's that hit it big during the online boom to the current generations of the well established wealthy families that have been around almost as long as this great country.

The morning started out in the usual fashion, getting everything ready for the day - checking in cars that had dropped late at night or early in the morning, checking the reservations for the day, and other general office maintenance.  Shortly after everything was set for the day, I got a call from the Signature VIP line of Enterprise.  On the other end of the line was a very nice lady stating that one of their customers would be flying into an FBO (Fixed Base of Operations - essentially private airports that use the runways of public airports) tomorrow morning and that we needed to be there to greet him and deliver the car. This isn't out of the ordinary, we deliver cars to the FBOs quite frequently, however the set of instructions that followed were very unusual for us. I was told that she would be emailing the Branch's management along with the City and Group Managers, and the Group's GM a list of procedures and expectations for this rental.  We were told in the email that under no circumstances were we to contact the customer directly and if we had any questions to call the Signature hotline. The vehicle to be delivered was also to be freshly detailed.  Luckily for us, we had just received a brand new Lincoln MKZ from the local dealership with a whopping 46 miles on it. Perfect. Now all we had to do was figure out how we were going to have someone there in the morning to deliver the car and greet the customer.  That's just about when we got the phone call that got us off the hook, we didn't have to be there, just had to have the car there.

I was the lucky one that got to write the contract today so that we could have the car over there and waiting for him in the morning. Normally we would wait until the day of the rental to deliver the car, but tomorrow morning there is only going to be one person at the counter until sometime around 11 when I get done helping out the downtown location.  While writing the contract I had to call the Signature line one more time to verify a few details.  While on that call I was asked who would be the contact for tomorrow, since I would be the one working in the morning I told her I would be the contact. She then asked what a number for me would be, I asked her if she meant the branch phone, she said no, she meant a cell number. She then asked what type of car we would be delivering, I told her and she seemed very happy with our choice. Apparently when you reach the level that this customer has, you get the royal treatment, literally.

After further investigation into who the vehicle was going to we found out that it was for the 10th richest man in the world, the current Chairman of Walmart, Mr Rob Walton. Hope he likes the MKZ.
